Has anyone ever heard of and/or used DotNetNuke (
Link
) in his/her ventures in developing websites in asp.net??
Well, if you haven't, check it out i mean it's pretty cool.
But, even crazier than that is Wincustomize.com derivative of web development! the site is
Link
The concept is basically the same as wincustomize in that giving a place for a community to share it's skins and themes, but from a web site standpoint.
So for instance, a person can download the DontNetNuke framework, install in on your local pc just as long as you ahve some type of localhost capabilities that come along with windowsxxp via IIS, and have a runnable website with an attached database. Then after that is all set, you can go to snowcovered.com, and buy a new skin for your website, install it, and there ya go, a totally new look and feel for your website just like window blinds for the desktop.
Obviously the major drawback is that you have to pay for much of ths skins on snowcovered, but i thought i would share the site with everyone who is trying some adventures in developming asp.net based sites.
Kinda crazy if you ask me, the developer will soon be obscelete!!!!!!

I disagree entirely... If you think web development is only making a fancy front end to a website then you've not done much real development. DotNetNuke allows you to use precanned templates to create basic website layouts and you can also provide different look and feel or skins for the templates, but it doesn't do anything as far as real content for the site. A developers job is to provide the meat of the site, typically there are graphics artists providing the flashy graphics, or in the case of some people here the graphics artist and the programmer are one in the same.. So, I hardly think that a web developers job is on the line because of something like DotNetNuke.
Oh, and since Jafo hasn't stopped by yet it's obsolete.

I was kidding about the about the abscolete developer comment.
and actually, i think i have done some real web development.
DotNetNuke yes is simply a front end that is skinnable which is a large portion of the struggle in web development. A "Good" developer can take that template and drive any type of content to it as they want. Also, if you went to that link i showed, you would see that there is alot of pre-made components out there that is built off of the framework such that you can have a fully functional site with minimal work.
And as far as Jafo is concerned, he can make it obscolete if he wants, but T-man might have something different to say about that, i am a friend of his.
But it's great to see that i got a rise out of you

Heh, don't flatter yourself, I was anything but riled by your post. I was just responding to your statement about a simple templating system making developers *obsolete*..
Oh, and I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am that you are friends with T-man. I'll start work on my shrine as soon as humanly possible...

great!! let me know when you have that done although i don't want to get billed by studio9 for the design
I simply referenced t-man because you tempted to threaten my post with a reference to Jafo.
So trying to show off in that sense is impressive.... but not really.
but have a great day nonetheless and i'll stop the bickering with you

Thanks SD for pointing that out... ItechDev, SD is in fact correct, the comment about Jafo was in no way meant to be a threat but a simple jibe all in good fun.
As for the coffee, make mine a Grande Caramel Machiatto!!
